What is the role of investment bankers in an IPO?
Well the investment bankers are charged their primary responsibility is distributing the securities to the public But they also have a responsibility to do their own due diligence on the public company or soon to be public company And they help with what's called price discovery So they help set the price of the securities Companies always want to sell their securities their shares for the highest price possible The public wants to buy it for the lowest price possible The underwriter or the investment bank involved their role is really to mediate between those 2 groups and make sure that there's a fair price out to the public
